Piet Mondrian is an artist famous for his use of geometric shapes and a limited number of colors. His goal was to create perfect balance in the most simple way possible.
1st graders used black paper lines to create at least six geometric shapes. We started with Mondrian's favorite colors; the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue. We used the primary colors to mix the secondary colors of orange, green, and purple. Each geometric shape was painted with a new color.
Students followed their paint mixing with the creation of a color wheel. They have now mixed colors and can place them in the proper place on the color wheel.
We will continue to use the color wheel as we explore warm and cool colors after break.
