Kennedy Elementary has adopted school-wide expectations for students in all spaces in the school, including the art room.
1) Be safe.
2) Be respectful.
3) Be responsible.
4) Be ready to learn.
Within these broader expectations students can make choices that are "above the line"(appropriate) or "below the line" (inappropriate). "Bottom line" behaviors are those that put the student/others in danger or are more extreme in nature.
Students will make mistakes and in most cases a small reminder may be all they need to fix a problem. I believe in making consequences match the action. For example, if a student is wasting or breaking a material they will lose the privilege of using that material.
In instances where a student's behavior is below the line after reminders, is dangerous/disrespectful to others, or continues after a consequence a home contact form will be completed.
The purpose of the form is to inform parents of behavior situations that are repetitive or more serious in nature. The form describes the behavior and any consequence that was given. I ask parents to review the form with their child and sign it before it is returned to school. Communication between home and school is vital in having a team approach to improving your child's experience in the classroom.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have throughout the school year.
