Mr. Heckendorf and I went to Seattle in late August. Part of our trip included a visit to Chihuly Garden and Glass. Dale Chihuly is a glass artist that does really large sculptures. He spends a lot of time thinking about how the sculpture fits into the environment around it. In the photo above, those lime green "plants" are really glass. The large blue tubes are the same shape as tree trunks coming out of the ground.
I love Chihuly's work because of the colors and how joyful it feels. I am still brainstorming ideas for how this art will become part of our fall semester at Kennedy. I am so excited to share the photos I took and have students try to make their own colorful sculptures.
