Third graders viewed a short video clip about Georgia's life and a collection of her flower paintings. When we began drawing I gave students the choice to copy the photo exactly or to "zoom in" on one portion to the point where only one or two petals would be showing. We are just beginning to paint- and this age group is ready to really start exploring the qualities that make watercolor such a great medium to work in. We talked about layering transparent color to create shadows and how to create a gradual change in value by adding water to a color.
I can't wait to see how these turn out after two more work sessions!
